Congratulations! Encina de Oro’23 Award to the Best Ham DOP Los Pedroches.

Yesterday, Friday, November 20, the Best Ham 2023 Los Pedroches PDO contest was held in the incomparable setting of the XXIII Los Pedroches PDO Ham Fair. This event, which vindicates the exclusivity of the Los Pedroches Protected Designation of Origin, is being held this weekend in the Cordovan town of Villanueva de Córdoba.

Eleven producers under the DOP Jamón Ibérico Los Pedroches participated in the contest, presenting 100% Iberian Acorn-fed Ham.

Throughout the morning the jury evaluated different aspects of each of the 11 pieces. The morphology and beveling of the ham, the appearance of the cut, the ham’s aroma, texture, flavor, juiciness and persistence in the mouth of the ham.

Finally, our partner producer, Agroibérica de Pozoblanco, won the highest recognition: Encina de Oro’2023 with a score of 8.44 points.

Agroibérica de Pozoblanco is one of the pioneering dryers in the curing of Iberian ham in the region. The award-winning piece, weighing eight kilos, is from the 2019-2020 montanera. It comes from a pig raised on the Fuente Vieja farm in the Dehesa la Jara in the municipality of Pozoblanco. The animal was slaughtered at the beginning of 2020.
